ASSESSED VALUE OF LANDS UPON WHICH LAND TAX COULD BE LEVIED.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives, dated 4th August, 189 H. Ordered, "That there be laid before this House, with a view to ascertain the value of land in the colony upon which a land tax could be levied, a return compiled from the assessment just completed under ' The Land and Income Assessment Act, 1891,' showing the assessed value of all lands exclusive of improvements, also excluding unoccupied Crown and Native land and lands vested in the Grown or public bodies not subject to taxation under the said Act. The return to include all freehold, pastoral, license, perpetual lease, and deferred-payment lands, &c.; coal and other mines, quarries, &c.; also all railways other than Government lines."—(Mr. McLean.)
