Laid on the Table in pursuance of Section 144 of " The Public Works Act, 1882."
[Extract from New Zealand Gazette, 12th August, 1886.] Making By-laws on New Zealand Eailways (Greymouth Section). I, Edwabd Eichaedson, the Minister for Public Works, appointed under "The Public Works Act' 1882," in pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by the one hundred and forty-fourth section of the said Act, and of all other powers in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby make the following by-laws for the regulation of traffic over the Brunner Bridge, on the Greymouth to Brunner Eailway, being one of the railways open for traffic in the Colony of New Zealand, in addition to the by-laws dated the 25th October, 1882, and in substitution of those gazetted for the said bridge on the 20th September, 1883, that is to say,— 1. No person shall cross, or attempt or commence to cross, the Brunner Eailway Bridge at Brunnerton, now used for ordinary and railway traffic, when a truck or carriage is crossing or is commencing to cross such bridge, or after receiving a notice from the stationmaster or other officer in charge of the bridge that such truck or carriage is about to cross, or such crossing is attended with danger owing to the railway traffic then on or about to be on the said bridge. 2. No person shall at any time drive or take across the said bridge any horses, sheep, pigs, or cattle without first obtaining the consent of the stationmaster, who shall at all times regulate such traffic. 3. No person shall have any right to drive or take on, to, or across such bridge at any time any vehicles, horses, or live animals; but he may be permitted by the stationmaster to do' so at such times as the bridge is unoccupied for railway traffic, provided such permission will not interfere with the apparatus or appliances for working the bridge, or injure or interfere with the structure of the said bridge, or interfere with the railway traffic in any way, 4. Any person who shall commit a breach of these by-laws or any of them, or shall do any act which by these by-laws is directed not to be done by him, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £10 for each such breach or the doing of each such act as aforesaid. As witness my hand this ninth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six. Edward Eichaedson, Minister for Public Works.
