SIR FRANCIS DILLON BELL, AGENT-GENERAL (CORRESPONDENCE WITH, RESPECTING HIS CONTINUANCE IN OFFICE AS).

Presented to both Houses of the General Assembly by Command of His Excellency.

No. 1. The Hon. the Peemibe to the Agent-Geneeal. Sic,' — Premier's Office, Wellington, 6th September, 1886. I have the honour to inform you that the Government, relying on your good offices, have decided to ask you to continue in the office of Agent-General for a further period of two years. I am aware that in doing this the Government are somewhat imposing upon you ; but they have such an appreciation of the manner in which you have performed the arduous duties of the office that they consider it most desirable you should undertake them for a further period. Will you be good enough, therefore, to let me know your decision—which I trust will be favourable —by cable as soon as you receive this ? T have, &c, Eobeet Stout. Sir F. No. 2. The Agent-Geneeal to the Hon. the Peemibe. Sic, — 7, Westminster Chambers, London, S.W., 22nd October, 1886. I have had the honour to receive your letter of the 6th September, expressing the wish of the Government that I should continue in the office of Agent-General for a further period of two years. I beg permission to assure you that I am very sensible of the generous and considerate terms in which you have been pleased to make me this proposal, and I can only answer by placing my services at the disposal of the colony. In compliance with your instructions, I am telegraphing to you to that effect. I have, &c, The Hon. the Premier, Wellington. F. D. Bell.

No. 3. The Agent-Genebal to the Hon. the Pbbmibr. (Telegram.) 22nd October, 1886. Your letter of September sixtli received. Appreciate its generous terms, and will serve extended term. Premier, New Zealand. [Approximate Cost of Paper. —Preparation, nil; printing (1,275 copies), 17s.]
