Sess. 11.—1884. NEW ZEALAND.
WAIKAIA EDUCATION RESERVES (FURTHER CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE OTAGO SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS RELATIVE TO). [In Continuation of C.-3, 1884.]
Laid on the Table of the House of Bepresentatives, with the Leave of the House.
The Under-Seceetaey, Crown Lands, to the Seceetaey, Otago School Commissioners. Sib, — General Crown Lands Office, Wellington, 4th August, 1884. I have the honour, by direction of Mr. Bolleston, to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the sth June, stating, in reply to my letter of the 24th May, that the Commissioners adhere to their former resolution, that the education reserves in the Waikaia district which have not been dealt with shall. be disposed of henceforth in the proportions of one-third for cash and two-thirds on deferred payments. In reply, I am to state that, on receipt of your letter, Mr. Bolleston laid it on the table of the House of Bepresentatives, with a view to promoting legislation on the subject. The dissolution of Parliament, however, prevented the question being dealt with; but it will no doubt be brought up during the coming session. Under existing circumstances Mr. Bolleston does not propose to deal further with the letter of the School Commissioners than again to express a hope that, in view of the advance of the season and the fact that the land is unoccupied, the Commissioners will see their way to acquiesce in his proposals as to the immediate settlement of the very valuable piece of agricultural land in question. I have, &c, H. J. H. Eliott, The Secretary, Otago School Commissioners, Dunedin. Under-Secretary. By Authority: Geoege Didsbuey, Government Printer, Wellington.—lBB4.
