To His Excellency the Governor and the Hon. the Premier. Auckland, sth June, 1879. This is a request by the chiefs of Ngapuhi and Te Rarawa to you two with reference to the trouble which is shortly about to spring up at Taranaki. Let your administration of affairs in connection with this trouble be good, and guided by patience, so that good may result, and that peace may rest upon the two races, both on the European and on the Alaori. By the adoption of that course will also be prevented the attachment of a bad name to this Government. Here is the Hon. the Native Minister, and also the chiefs of Ngapuhi and Te Rarawa, who are carefully dealing with this trouble. In consequence of the patience displayed by you and the Hon. the Native Minister at the meeting at Te Kopua, Rewi Maniapoto came peaceably to Auckland to take part with us in making regulations out of which will spring up peace to these two races, so that unity may result, and that there may be fulfilled the words of the Psalm which says, " Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity." From us, From Hori Tawiti, M.H.R., Rakena Wi Kaitaia, Maihi P. Kawiti, Renata Pure, Timoti Puhipi, Kato Whakaita, Rev. Wiremu Pomare, Nui Hare, Hirini Taiwhanga, Paki te Ripi, On behalf of the Chiefs of Ngapuhi and Te Rarawa. By Authority: Geoem Didsbuky, Government Printer, Wellington. —1879. Price 3d.]
