EDUCATIONAL RESERVES (RETURN OF).

(Return to an Order of the House of Representatives, dated the 2nd day of August, 1877.) " That a printed Return be placed in the hands of Members, showing the amount of Town and Country Land reserved in each Provincial District for educational purposes, particularizing whether held by the Government, Education Boards, Trustees, or Corporate Bodies ; also, the particular objects for which they were so reserved, and an Estimate by the Commissioner of Crown Lands in each district of the value of each class of such reserves ; also, a Return showing what moneys, if any, are in hand from sales or rents of any reserves which have been granted, and in whose charge and how invested ; also a Return of all property vested in or under the control of any Education Board for educational purposes."— (Honourable Mr. Reynolds.)

Provisional Reserves for "educational purposes of a public character," have been made under Section 12 of "The WasteLands Administration Act, 1876," in the following Provincial Districts, and are not included in the preceding return : — A. (3.) Otago Provincial District. The sum of £1,748 10s. was quite recently realized from the sale of a portion of Lumsden Township. The money is in the Treasury awaiting investment, in terms of the " The Otago Reserves Act, 1874." In no other cases than the preceding is it reported that moneys have been received from the sale or rental of reserves for investment. In all cases the ordinary rental is reported as being appropriated to the current expenditure of the several Education Boards. IV.—PROPERTY VESTED IN EDUCATION BOARDS. The property vested in Education Boards, other than the lands hereinbefore enumerated, consists of school sites, schoolhouses, schoolmasters' residences, school furniture, school appliances, &c.
