ABOLITION OF PROVINCES AND CONTROL OF AUCKLAND POLICE FORCE, (RESOLUTIONS PASSED BY PROVINCIAL COUNCIL OF AUCKLAND RELATIVE TO).
(Return to an Order of the House of Representatives, No. 34, ofthe Ist September, 1875.)
(Extract from the Daily Southern Cross Newspaper, IQth May, 1875.) Auckland Peovtncial Council, 18th Mat, 1875. Me. Daegaville moved, "That in the opinion of this Council it is not desirable that the existing relations between the Provincial and General Governments with reference to the Police Force should be disturbed. That the above resolution be transmitted by respectful address to his Honor the Superintendent." Motion carried.
(Extract from the Daily Southern Cross Newspaper, 21st May, 1875.) Auckland Pbovdtcial Council, 20th Mat, 1875. Me. Bagnall moved, " That in the opinion of this Council the time has arrived when some change should be made in the dual system of government at present existing in this colony. That the whole of the Provincial Governments of the colony, as at present existing, should be abolished, and a more efficient and local form of self-government established in lieu thereof." (Extract from, the Minutes of the Auckland Provincial Council, Session No. XXX. , 1875, Friday, 21st May, 1875.) FOBWAEDED TO THE GoTEENMENT BY HIS HoiTOE THE SuPEBINTEITDEHT OF AUCKLAND. Resolved, 1. That it is not desirable that any large constitutional changes should be made until the people of the colony have been fully informed of the details of the scheme of local self-government which is to be set up in place of the Provincial forms of government, and have had ample time to consider the same. 2. That such change should not be attempted to be made during the next session of Parliament, but should be dealt with by the next Parliament. 3. That any such constitutional changes should apply to the whole colony, and not to any particular part thereof. 4.
