(c.) £500 was the amount agreed on for the relinquishment of their claims; the balance is accounted for in receipt No. 228. (d.) Receipt enclosed in No. 143. (e.) Of this amount £2,000 was paid in cash, £2.000 to be held by the Governor, to bear interest at 8 per cent., that is, £160 per annum ; the amount to be divided between Paitio, Te One, Topi Patuki, Te One Kiliau, Fred. Kihau, and Ellen Kiliau, and their heirs ; failing all these, the Governor shall direct how the money is to be applied. The remaining £2,000 to be expended in the purchase of land in the Southland Province for educational and other purposes for the benefit of these Tribes. (f.) Receipt missing.
