RETURN OF LANDS CONFISCATED BY THE GENERAL GOVERNMENT, ETC.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives, No. 6, dated 22nd June, 1870. That a Return be laid upon the Table of this House, showing —" 1. The acreage of lands confiscated by, ceded to, or otherwise acquired by the General Government in the respective Districts of the Colony. 2. The quantity of such lands in each District given, agreed to be given, or reserved for Natives, whether friendly or rebel. 3. The quantity of such lands in each District allocated to Military Settlers or Immigrants. 4. The quantity of such lands sold for cash or scrip in each District, and the amount of cash realized therefor. 5. The quantity of such lands in each District now held by the Government available for sale." (Mr. Gillies.)

(n.) 5,000 acres out of this block, known as Patutahi, is promised to Native allies engaged on our Bide during foist Coast Campaign, 1861-05. (4.) This block was partly taken, and partly ceded by, Ngatiporou Tribe; subsequently it was all given back by the Hon. D. McLean to Ngatiporou Tribe in consideration of services, only 100 acres for lauding place, &c, at Awanui, being retained. (c) The post=, Tarawera and Haroto, are within this acreage. (d.) These 200 acres are in the Town of Raleigh, Waitara West. (e.) Tliis area includes 109 acres in the Town of Raleigh, Waitara East. (/.)
