PRESENTED TO BOTH HOUSES OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, BY COMMAND OF HIS EXCELLENCY. WELLINGTON. 1865.
D.—No. 4A.
Hugh Caui/eton, Esq., to the Hon. the Colonial Sec'retaky. Sjr _ Wellington, 21st October 1866. 1 have the honor to submit to you the terms upon which, after verbal communications with your predecessor in office, I propose to arrange the disputed question that has arisen from the transfer of the Auckland Government House and Grounds to the Superintendent of that Province, and has been reported on by a Select Committee of the House of Eepresentatives. _ The Committee were of opinion that the (£25,000) twenty-five thousand pounds required by '• The Auckland Reserves Act" to be paid to the Government, ought to be paid in cash into the Public Treasury and expended in the building of a new Government House in the Auckland Domain. This arrangement having been objected to by the late Government, I propose to take the Government House at a valuation, the ground being given in, and to pay the amount into the Colonial Treasury for General Government purposes. I have, &c, The Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Hugh Caeleton Wellington. (For the Superintendent of Auckland.)
