RETURN SHOWING THE EXPENDITURE ON THE NATIVE SCHOOL & FARM ESTABLISHMENTS, AT TE AWAMUTU.

(Return to an Order of the House of Representatives, dated 'Uli November, 1863,)

" That there be laid upon the table of this House a Eeturu of the Expenses of the Otawhao School and Establishment from the Ist August, 1862, to the breaking up of that Establishment, including a return of all monies drawn by Mr. Grorst from the Church of England Board of Education, <fee. ; also from the balances of Educational Funds remaining in the hands of the Governor, according to Clause 8 and 11 of the Educational Act, 1858, or from anyother source; the above Ketum to include the Salary and Allowances of Mr. Gorst. Also, that paid to his Assistants, as Clerks, Interpreters, Schoolmasters, Artificers, Laborers, &c, with the name of each individual employed. Also, the number of children, according to the Monthly School Returns, boarded and educated in the Otawhao Institution, from the Ist. August, 1862, to the 30th April, 1863, stating whether they were Maories, Half-castes, or Europeans. Also, the expense of breaking up of the Otawhao establishment, including removal and carriage of goods and stores to Auckland, and the present cost of the students remaining in Auckland. Also, for a copy of the instructions (if any were given) to Mr. Gorst, on entering upon his duties in "VVaikato and on assuming the management of tho Otawhao and Kohekohc establishments, and the sums he was empowered to expend."

RETURN OF ATTENDANCE AT THE OTAWHAO INSTITUTION FROM 1ST AUGUST, 1862, TO 31ST APRIL, 1863.

N.B. —The same pupils were in attendance from January to April; no new Scholars were received during that time. Henry Taylor, Inspector of Native Schools. The present cost of the Otawhao students now resident at St. Stephens is at the rate of £30 each per annum. The sum of £100 was in addition allowed the Manager to defray expenses attendant upon their reception at St. Stephen's. H. Halse. December 3, 1863.
