Sir,— We have the honor to request you will be so kind as to inform us whether the Government would grant to a hundred or a hundred and fifty Danes, desirous of emigrating to this country, 40 or 50 acres of land in the Waikato, and pay half or the whole of their passage money, and also if other advantages would be accorded to those trained to military service. In the event of such being the case, we should like to know whether such advantages would be guaranteed to them from the moment of their leaving the port of embarkation, which in this instance would be Hamburg. Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, 6th October, 1863. • iENTLEMEN,— In reply to your letter of the 3rd instant, requesting to know whether the Government would grant land in the Waikato, and pay the passages of one hundred or one hundred and fifty Danes, who arc desirous of emigrating to this country, I am directed by Mr. Domett to inform you that the Government will undertake; to pay half the passage money of as many of the Danes out of the above number as shall be approved of by them ou landing in New Zealand. The ages of the men should be under forty, and all those approved would be entitled to forty acres of land. I have, Ac., W. Gisisorne, Under Secretary. Messrs. Bucholz and Co., ic. etc. &c.
No. 3. MESSRS. BUCHOLZ ifc CO. TO THE HONORABLE THE COLONIAL SECRETARY. Auckland, 4th November, 1863. Sir,— We had the honor to receive your favour of 6th of last month, in reply to our letter of the 3rd of the same month, stating that the Government would undertake to pay half the passage money of as many out of a hundred or a hundred and fifty Danes, desirous of emigrating to this country, as shall be approved of by them on landing in New Zealand, and that such as were approved of would be entitled to forty acres of land—which reply we have communicated to our correspondents in Denmark.
