MONEY FOR SOLDIERS
EXTRA £5 MAY BE SENT CHRISTMAS ALLOWANCE (By Telegraph.—press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday An announcement that the Government had agreed to permit a Christmas remittance of an additional £5 (New Zealand currency) to members of the armed forces serving overseas was made tonight by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash. The Minister said that moneys must be in hand for transmission not later than December 5, otherwise payment before Christmas would be extremely doubtful.
One Christmas remittance only to each member of the armed forces was permissable, and separate bank receipts for the sum to be remitted up to the maximum of £5 must be forwarded to the Director of Base Records, or the Navy or Air Headquarters, Wellington.
