GAOL SENTENCE IMPOSED - Telegraph.— Press Association) AUCKLAND, Thursday Eight charges of stealing six bicycles, a suit and a wallet containing £l4, of a total value of £99 10s were admitted by Algernon James Kennington Johnson, aged 37, when he appeared before Mr F. H. Levien, j S.M., in the Police Court today. I Detective-Sergeant Nalder, who ! Prosecuted, said the cycles had been j stolen from Auckland, Wellington, ] Hamilton and Te Awamutu, four havI ing been sold by Johnson to dealers : for a total of £8 17s 6d. Johnson left Hamilton on October 21 for Wellington. In Wellington he met a man who invited him home for lunch. I While his host was in the bathroom, ] Johnson went to the man’s bedroom and stole his wallet and disappeared. After extracting the £l4 Johnson posted the empty wallet to the man. On one charge the magistrate sentenced Johnson to three months’ imj prisonment with hard labour, and on another he ordered Johnson to be detained for reformative purposes for 12 months.
