FLOWER SHOWS
FIRST CHURCH, FRANKTONj ( ENTRIES OF HIGH STANDARD j I The members of the Ladies’ Guild j of First Church, Frankton, were res- \ ponsible for arranging a very sue- 1 cessful flower show recently. In ! spite of the fact that unseasonai j weather has seriously retarded ; growth, there was a good number of i exhibits, many of which reached a j very high standard. In the cookery j section competition was particularly keen, the judge remarking on the quality and number of exhibits. The annual summer fair was held in conjunction with the flower show I and attracted a large number of visitors. The stalls were well laden with produce, cakes and needlework, and the afternoon tearoom was well patronised. In the evening games, competi- | tions and items were enjoyed. Those j performing were Miss Yvonne McLachlan who played 'cello solos and Miss Lil. McLean and Mr G. H. Maxwell who gave vocal solos. The accompaniments were played by Mesdames C. L. French, G. H. Maxwell and A. McLachlan. For this social function Messrs R. Elliott and D. Forsythe acted as masters of ceremonies, and members
of the Young People’s Club were in charge of supper arrangements. As a result of the flower show and fair the church funds will benefit by about £24.
