THEFT REPORTED COSTLY INSTALLATION FIVE TAKEN IN ONE NIGHT In a special report to the Hamilton Borough Council last night Mr I. Webster, borough electrical engineer, said that on the night of Monday v November 3, five of tne 80watt mercury vapour lamps on the Hamilton traffic bridge were stolen, iheir total cost was £7 15s. Yesterday morning another lamp was missing. •'he engineer said that this type of lamp on tne bridge was proving more costly than expected. Since April his staff had replaced 17 lamps, eight of which had been replaced during j October and November. Some of j the lamps had been broken by the standards being hit by passing vehicles and others had failed through the heavy vibration caused by vehicles. It was notewortny that me lamp at the end of the bridge near- ! est Victoria Street had not had to be replaced this year. Normally the lamps should give service for about a year. ihe Town Clerk. Mr W. L. Waddell, said the matter of stolen lamps had been reported to the police. The Works Committee is to investigate how best to improve the lighting service at the bridge, and to lessen the chance of lamps being stolen.
