BOROUGH COUNCIL
STREET LIGHTS DECLINED A meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was held last night with tne Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro, presiding. Also present were Messrs W. M. Cann, J. Treloar, F. C. House, R. McCaw, H. M. Hammond, C. Lafferty, F. Findlay, W. W. Dillicar, T. Parker, W. R. Shattock and the borough officers. Leave of absence was granted Messrs J. R. Fow and T. G. Reynolds. A request that the rental for the Frankton Town Hall be reduced was made by the promoters of dances at the hall. They claimed that attendances had fallen off considerably, owing to the war. They also asKcd for a share of the holiday n.guts. The council decided to take no action. Objection was taken by Mr E. J Davey to the council allowing permanent obstruction to part of Bryce Street east of Hinemoa Street. The writer suggested that the coucnil should obtain legal advice. The letter was received. Additional Street Lights Reporting on an application by the Hamilton Technical High School Board of Managers for additional street lights in the vicinity oi the school, and on two other applications elsewhere, the borough electrical engineer said he could not recommend them at present in view of the effort to conserve electric power.—lt was decided to reply in terms of the engineer’s report. Mr F. T. M. Kissel, chief electrical engineer in the Public Works Department, wrote expressing appreciation of the council’s attitude regarding stricter control of unauthorised electric wiring connections. The letter was received. It was agreed to hold the next ordinary meeting of the council on Wednesday, December 17, and the first meeting in 1942 on Wednesday, January 28.
