JUMPING BLOOD
SIRE OF FOREST GLEN The succcess of the Waimai-owned five-year-old Forest Glen in the steeplechase event at Te Rapa on Monday has directed attention to the immediate antecedents of the winner. The sire, Nasrani, never raced, but he has a stout pedigree, for he was by imported Day Comet, by St Frusquin. from a bay mare by Australian-bred Spalpeen from Repetition, a splendid mare bred in the Bay of Plenty by the Vercoe family. Nasrani was actually bred by the late Mr G. W. Vercoe, about 12 years ago. The horse showed promise as a youngster, but he never raced, for he developed fits or some ailment akin to this, and it was decided to turn him out. He was used on some of the Vercoe mares, and later given to Messrs Wilson Bros, who also used him, as is evident by the presence of Forest Glen and Sir Waimai on the racecourse this season. The Spalpeen —Repetition mare, dam of Nasrani, is full sister to Ditto, winner of many jumping events in the province a few years ago.
