NEW WEST SCHOOL
ASSURANCES GIVEN RE-OCCUPATION BY PUPILS BEGINNING OF NEXT YEAR A statement by the chairman of the Hamilton West School Committee, Mr R. S. R. at a meeting of the committee last night tnat the pupils would be able to reoccupy their new school when the 1942 year commences was received with enthusiasm. Mr Seddon said he had received assurances from the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, the chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board, Mr F. Findlay, and the Member of Parliament for Hamilton, Mr C. A. Earrell, that the children would re-occupy the school next yeai. He hoped that this time it would be a case of “goodbye” to the old school and not merely “au revoir.” Concern was expressed by several members when it was stated that some of the tradesmen who carried out necessary alterations to the old building last July had not yet been paid for their work by the Government. The repairs that were carried out were to make the building suitable for occupation, but it was stated then that they were only temporary. The committee again expressed the opinion that the old school was most unsuitable and was likely to affect seriously the health of the children. It was fortunate that the weather had not been hot and humid, and widespread relief would be felt by the parents and all others concerned when the pupils were back in the more healthier surroundings of the new building.
