MORE APPEALS HEARD SITTING AT PUTARURU HEARINGS ADJOURNED Most of the appellants before the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board, at the Putaruru sitting on Monday, had their cases adjourned sine die. They were engaged in farming and the appeals were based on public interest or undue hardship or both. A decision that he be not called up before August 1 was recorded in the case of Denis A. Weatherell, Putaruru, who stated he had sold his farm, but was not to give possession until July. Those granted sine die adjournments were: Herbert Fermor Amoore, Pairere; William Edwin Goulding, Mangapouri, Tirau; Richard George Reid, Tirau; Frank Gudgeon, Tirau; Oliver Lyall Rasmussen, Pairere, Tirau; Griffiths Joseph Hamilton, Waotu, Putaruru; William Harold Peters, Putaruru; James Alexander Love, Putaruru; Richard Alexander Sproule, Putaruru; and Edward Charles Johnson, Putaruru. William Gibson Heaney, Putaruru. had his case adjourned until the first sitting of the Board after June 1. The Director of National Service appealed for William Cyril Guffie, Putaruru, and the case was adjourned until the next sitting at Putaruru. There was no appearance in support cf the appeal of George Edgar Hunter, Tirau, and it was accordingly dismissed. Join Medical Corps At appellant’s request, the appeal of William Wylie McDougall, Putaruru, was formally dismissed, as he had arranged to be called up for the medical corps. Similar action was taken in the case of John Douglas Finlay, Putaruru. Both had appealed as conscientious objectors. Adjournment until next sitting was decided upon in the case of Desmond Willoughly Hungerlord, a tractor driver, whose appeal was supported by G. H. Verity, alleging public interest and undue hardship.

The appeal of Mervyn Stanley Matthews, Tirau, in the public interest, and supported by the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, was adjourned’ for further hearing at Hamilton.
