BRAZEN BOLD AMENDS HANOVER SCORES AGAIN RACING IN THE WET Showery weather marked the second and concluding 1 day or the ohinemuri Jockey Club's meeting at Pacroa yesterday when conditions generally were most unpleasant, especially before the big race, wiien a driving down pour drove all but hardy investors to shelter. The track, which was soft early, became progressively heavier and the public enclosures, lor the latter part of the programme, were a quagmire. As was only to bf* expected, investments slumped and totalisator ilgures for tbe day were appreciably lower than on the corresponding day last year. The big race was won by Tellsom Trom Joan Peel and Wildore, while brazen Bold made amends Tor llrst-day running wnen be prevailed over Young l’addon and Trilliarcb. Hanover repeated llrst-day steeplechase rorm when he won the llauraki Plains Steeplecliase from end to end, while in the Second Handicap Hurdles Parekura sprung a surprise over the lavourite, limes Lad. Tne concluding event went to Town Survey, who beat the favourite, Landveyor, and the weil-supported Foxwood. Winner trained by owner, Papakura. Ability to handle tbe heavy conditions prevailing stood to Tellsom in this, the chief event or the day, when he hung on to nold off a stiff challenge from Joan Peel, and won by half a length. The rest of the Held was outclassed. The favourite, Erlick, threatened danger at no part of the race. Corato led early from Eastern Heir, Tellsom and Joan Peel, and this quartette led past the stands and along the back, with Wildore their nearest attendants and Full Hand and High Delight clear ol the others. Tellsom rati to the rront at the half-mile from Joan Peel, and he was clear at the head of the straight, with High Delight, Corato and barrister next. Tellsom and Juan Peel drew out at tbe distance, and the former prevailed by ball a length. Wildore was live lengths away third, and High Delight fourth. Next came Gold Vaals and barrister. Time, 2.0. Hanover ran right up to his llrst-day form, when he completely outclassed the opposition to win with ease. As oil opening day, Count Roussillon rail off, this time at the llrst fence. Kaiwaka, wnen racing in second place, came to grief three fences rroru home. The race was actually a procession, over the double the llrst time the order being Hanover, Kaiwaka, Comrie and Riotous. At the completion of a further two rounds tne Held began to bunch a little with Hanover clear of Kaiwaka, Connie and Riotous. Alter Kaiwaka had fallen Hanover was left fully twenty lengths clear of Comrie and Riotous. Hanover gave his supporters a thrill at the last Tence when he had a “lire,” but he recovered to go on and win by 15 lengths over Comrie, with Riotous, the only other to iluish, eight lengths away. Gray, TakaBrazen Bold made amends for his somewhat unlucky defeat on Saturday, when, alter hitting the front along the back, he carried on to win nicely from Young Paddon, who llnished well to shade Trilliarcli by a bead. Town Section was practically n line fourth.
Town Section jumped out smartly with Brazen Bold,’ this pair being in charge along llie back from Grandora, Miss Te Koura, queen City, Gay Seton, Trilliarch and Young Paddon. Brazen Bold ran past Town Section at tbe ball-mile and into tin- straight he was followed by Grandora, Trilliarch, Gay Seton and Town Section. Brazen Bold carried on to win comfortably by threequarters or a length from Young Paddon, with Trilliarch a head further back and Town Section a similar distance away, ahead or Grandora. Time, 1.18. Winner trained by owner, Te Awamutu. Town Survey, revelling in the going, llnished well to win the concluding event from Landveyor, a llrst-day winner and Foxwood. Ohniaha Tell hair way down the running. Ohmaha began smartly and he and Mayfair led along the back from onetea, Gold'-n Pam and Penzance. Royal Son made a forward move and was actually llrst into the straight, ahead of Mayfair, Town Survey, Landveyor, Foxwood and ohmaha. In a good llnish Town Survey did best to beat Landveyor by a bead, with Foxwood inreequarters or a length away. Onetea was closest of the others. Time, TOTALISATOR DECREASE The totalisator fell rrom £31,409 on tne second day last year to £19,294 los, a decrease of £12,114 10s. The investments for the meeting amounted to £61,4 47 10s, against £72,87 1 10s last year, a decrease of £ 1 1,424.
