PRESENCE OF MIND

WIFE SAVES HUSBAND PULLED FROM POWER LINES BOTH FALL 12 FEET (By Telegraph.—special to Times) NAPIER, Monday The remarkable presence of mind of his wife was undoubtedly responsible for saving the life of Mr W. Parker, of Napier, when he was caught in electric power lines. Mrs Parker climbed a ladder, was careful to catch her husband’s clothing and not his body and then, despite the prospect of a 12ft. fall for both of them, jerked him from the wires. Mr Parker was engaged in painting the roof of his home and in some manner he caught hold of the power lines leading to the house. Mrs Parker heard him cry out and found him almost unconscious hanging on the wire by his hands. Pushing the ladder further along Mrs Parker climbed up, grasped her husband’s clothing and then launched herself from the ladder, dragging Mr Parker down.

Mr Parker fell the 12ft. without receiving any injury, but Mrs Parker received a fracture of the right arm.
