MOPPING UP

BRITISH PRESSING ON REVERSES OF ITALIANS CAPTURE OR SURRENDER (Official Wireless) (Received March 15, 1 p.m.) RUGBY, March 14 A communique issued at Nairobi states: The operations in Abyssinia continue according to plan. The mopping up operations in Italian Somaliland are rapidly ending in the capture or surrender of the last remnants of the enemy. Since the advent of the topees and slouch hats of our Imperial troops, which are now as familiar a feature in Italian Somaliland as they recently were in Kenya, fresh confidence has been instilled amongst many of the native inhabitants. The conditions throughout the occupied territory are rapidly becoming normal. Successes in Abyssinia In addition to announcing the capture by Abyssinian patriots of Yavell, in Abyssinia, it was reported officially from Nairobi last night that a Cairo communique states: In Libya and Eritrea therfe is no change. British troops in Abyssinia have occupied Asosa and are now advancing along the Mendi road. Continuing their successful advance from Burye, during which they continued to inflict serious casualties on the retreating enemy, the patriot forces have now reached the vicinity of Debra Marcos.
