SCRAP METAL SENT
COLLECTION AT RAROTONGA CONTRIBUTION TO WAR FUNDS (By Telegraph. —Press Association) WELLINGTON, Saturday In response to a public appeal a considerable quantity of scrap metal has been collected and is being forwarded to New Zealand, state* the Rarotonga correspondent of the United Press Association. The old lead collected has been melted down and a weight of over one ton pig lead is being forwarded. In addition there are 18741 b. of scrap brass, copper, bronze and zinc. Some of the metal was obtained by divers from the wreck of the Maitai, which lies at the entrance to the main harbour of Avarua. The consignment is to be sold and the proceeds paid to the National Patriotic Fund as a further donation from the people of Rarotonga to the war effort.
