MENACE TO AMERICA HUNGRY AXIS HORDES
WASHINGTON. March 14 Mr James Scrunliam, chairman of the Naval Appropriations Sub-Com-mittee, m urging approval of the huge naval programme, told the House of Representatives that the United States faces certain attack by hungry Axis hordes from Europe and Asia unless a gigantic defence armament '8 created swiftly regardless ~f the aid given to Britain. He added: “The war ha« now substantially reached a deadlock, but the ultimate decision will rest on seapower, aided by air mastery. It is useless to pretend that. England's fight has nothing to do with us. It has everything to do with us. Hitler has probably reached his maxjmum strength and his success or failure largely hinges on what the United States Congress does in the next few months. The United States must strongly aid the hard-pressed British." The vote of 3,446,000,000 dollars was passed without opposition.
