NATIONAL SAVINGS
FLAG COMPETITION WEBER’S GOOD RECORD (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday Pride of place for the Dominion in the flag-flying competition, conducted in connection with the National Savings campaign and previously held by Alfredton, in the Wellington district, has now passed to Weber—a small settlement in the Palmerston North district—which has achieved the additional distinction of being the first town to record 100 per cent success, the number of depositors equaling the total population of the district. Te Anga, which leads in the Hamilton district, is next with nearly 91 per cent, and Alfredton, which still holds first place in the Wellington district, is third with 86 per cent. The honour of flying one of the special National Savings flags goes to the leading town in each of the 18 postal districts in the Dominion. These towns, all of which show an increased percentage in comparison with the receding fortnightly period, are as follows:—Auckland district, Whitford; Blenheim district, Havelock; Christchurch district, Waiau; Dunedin district, Owaka; Gisborne district, Te Araroa; Greymouth district, Ross; Hamilton district, Te Anga; Invercargill district, Waikaka; Napier district, Porangahau; Nelson district, Murchison; New Plymouth district, Awakino; Oamaru district, Kurow; Palmerston North district, Weber; Thames district, Whakatane; Timaru district, Geraldine; Wanganui district, Patea; Wellington district, Alfredton; Westport district, Westport. With the exception of the Christchurch postal district, in which Waiau now obtains the precedence over Akaroa, the “leading towns” are unchanged from the preceding period.
