Conditions could have hardly been more unfavourable in Hamilton for observing the lunar eclipse last night. The night was heavily overcast with an occasional light drizzle. The eclipse was not a total one, the greatest obscuration occurring at midnight when the lower third of the moon’s diameter was immersed in the earth’s shadow. The phenomenon commenced at 10.55 p.m. and continued until 12.56 a.in Some Hamilton watchers report that thvy were unable to observe tne eclipse at all. but observers In Auckland obtained occasional glimpses.
