BEQUEST TO NATION
THOMAS HARDY’S HOUSE SCHOLARSHIP BY SISTER Miss Katharine Hardy, of Talbothays Lodge, near Dorchester, sister of the late Thomas Hardy, 0.M., the novelist, who left £74,165, bequeathed Max Gate, formerly the residence of her brother, to the National Trust.
She also gave £3OOO to Dorchester Grammar School for a permanent scholarship, tenable by Old Boys of the School at Queen’s College, Oxford, to be called the Thomas Hardy Scholarship.
