SYDNEY MAN’S SUCCESS (Times Air Mail Service) SYDNEY. Feb. 27 Mr M. J. Lawson, who at Sydney ianded a tiger shark weighing 11981 b., a world’s record catch, has been awarded the Grand Prize for 1940, by Ocean City, a Philadelphian (U.S.A.) fishing publication.
Mr Lawson and his catch are shown in a most prominent position in the publication, and the resultant publicity should further reveal to Americans the type of fishing available in Australian waters. The publishers of the magazine wrote: “It is a great pleasure to inform you that you are the winner of the Grand Prize, consisting of a Ealboa reel and Montague big game rod. Congratulations on the finest catch of the 1940 season. The reel and rod were shipped to you the other day, and we hope you receive the package at a very early date in perfect condition.” Mr Lawson brought the shark to gaff in 43 minutes with a No. 36 line on a Panama reel.
