TE RAPA GALLOPS
TRIALS FOR PAEROA ROYAL SON AND KARATOKI PETER DOUGLAS PLEASES (By “Martitn”) The going on the course proper, 45ft out from the rails, was in splendid order for galloping at Te Rapa this morning when some useful efforts were recorded by candidates for the approaching Ohinemuri meeting. Among those to please most were Royal Son and Peter Douglas over half a mile and Karatoki and \eyanna over five furlongs. Respectful (Poole) and Acreman (Izod) were associated over seven furlongs in 1.33, the initial five furlongs being traversed in 1.5 1-5. Foxsen (McKenzie) and Hunto (Anderson) negotiated a circuit in 2.2 4-5, both doing their work well throughout. Foxsen is to contest the Ohinemuri Cup on Saturday, in which she will have the services of N. R. McKenzie. Royal Melody (O. Mclnally) ran to the half-mile in 56 l-ss. Foxmint and Noble Fox (McKenzie) hit out over five furlongs in 1.7 1-5, their first half-mile requiring 535. Irish Pearl (Poole) and a Day Comet colt ran half a mile in 54 3-ss. Laughing Fox (Anderson) was not bustled at any stage of five furlongs, which he traversed in 1.9. A Smart Half-mile A smart half-mile was that of Royal Son (Gollop), who was shading Successful (C. B. Goulsbro) at the completion of the effort in 50s, the first three furlongs being cut out in 365. Royal Son is in splendid heart for pending engagements. Successful is on the up grade. African (McKenzie) ran half a mile in 55 4-ss. Malo (Poole) got to the end of half a mile in 535. Penzance (Anderson), after running the first half-mile in 555, ran on to the five-furlong ; peg in 1.8. Dinky Di (Long) negotiated half a mile in 54 l-ss. " Karatoki (Gollop), jumping away a couple of lengths in front of Veyanna (C. B. Goulsbro), was holding the latter at the completion of five furlongs in 1.3 1-5, which was the best of the morning over the distance. Karatoki ran his first three furlongs in 36s and the half-mile in 50s. He is in good heart and will lack nothing on the score of conditiofT for racing at the fixture. Tea Drop (Ensor) was doing better than Vitement (Long) over the concluding stages of half a mile in 50 4-ss, the first three furlongs being cut out in 36 4-ss, a useful effort for horses of their class. Trilliarch (Meynell; was not bustled to run to the half-mile in 575. Peter Douglas: The two-year-old Peter Douglas (Brown) displayed dash in hitting ' out over half a mile in 50s, his first three furlongs in 365. He looks a picture of condition and should be hard to beat in the Karangahake Handicap on the first day at Paeroa. Kingcraft (McLaughlin) assisted / over the first half-mile by Sir Innes (C. B.
