FAT STOCK SALES SHARP DROP IN PIGS GOOD DEMAND FOR BEEF (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Thursday I At the Westfield fat stock sales yesterday, although there was a fair entry of pig-s, owing’ to the uncertainty of obtaining killing space, exporters were not operating. This followed the reduction of the exporters’ scheduled price for baconcts and porkers by &il per lb to 6Ad and '•ld respectively, which became effective on Tuesday. The best price lor baconers at tlie sale yesterday was £4 3s, compared with £4 15s, and values for porkers were down by ss to £2 14s. Competition was keen for a small entry of ox beef, tne best price for steers being j 10s higher than last week at £ls 10s. An j average oirering of cows and lieirers came forward, and in nearly all cases linn late rates were maintained, although the best price lor extra heavy prime young cows and heifers was i'll, compared with £l3 realised last week. An improved demand Tor wethers in a moderate entry of sheep resulted in a iise of 3s 0d in the top price for prime types and an increase or 6(1 for unfinished lines. Prime ewes eased slightly on last week’s quotations and brought i?s od, against 22s Od. Unfinished lines brought a top price of i is 6(1, a rise of Is. An average entry of lambs met good competition.
