POST-WAR WORK
FOR EX-SERVICEMEN SCHEMES FOR HAMILTON I On the subject ot post-war work for ’ ex-servicemen, the borough engineer, Mr R. Worley, in a report to the Hamilton Borough Council at last night’s meeting, said that when men returned from a war the last sort of job they required was the public works job in remote places, and he suggested that the council put forward the claims of the Frankton- ; Hamilton major railway reconstruci tion scheme as being ideally suited ’ for employing large numbers of men close to their homes. | “ Another work which might be j considered is the suburban sewer drainage of the areas adjacent ;to , Hamilton,” said Mr Worley. “ Prej sent indications point to the fact that, : however much this work may be de- ' sirabie from a health standpoint, most of the work will be quite uneconomic for the areas concerned to shoulder the cost. The only hope of the work ! being carried out by the counties ! would appear to depend on the | availability of a considerable subsidy, and the same may be said of certain j areas in tne borough.” j The Mayor considered it timely for j all councillors to look into this mat--1 ter closely. The Works Committee j could be asked for a report, the ulti- ' mate objective being to place a re- ■ commendation before the Auckland : Provincial Patriotic Council.
The council adopted the recommendation.
