BACON CHEAPER

VALUES AT FRANKTON HIGHER COW BEEF VALUES SLIGHT EASING FOR WETHERS Bacon was cheaper at the Frankton sale yesterday, some descriptions being from 3/- to 4/- a head down on last week. Three export buying j interests, who usually operate at the sale, were not on the bench of buyers yesterday and the market noticeably suffered. A feature of the beef market was the keen demand for cow and Heifer beef, the majority of entries selling at a price advance of approximately 10/- a head. Some extra heavy prime sorts were sold from £9 10s to £lO 2s, but these were comparatively lew in number, heavy prime sorts usually being- quoted from £S 103 to £0 10s. Prime entries, made from £7 10? to £8 5s and fat descriptions from £0 5s to £7 ss. In the ox beef section a fair proportion of the entries comprised the plainest sorts seen at the yards for some time. These did not attract very keen bidding-, but the market improved witn the offering of better quality pens and values on the whole could be quoted firm. Heavy i steers changed hands from £ll IDs to £l3 2s 6d with a top price or £lO 17s 6d for an extra heavy entry. Small steers were knocked down from £7 10s to £S l is. Short Sheep Entry The entry of fat slicep was the shortest for some weeks. Although individual prices were occasionally slightly better, -the market on the whole for wethers was just traded from 24s to 28s against 25s to 27s last week and fats from 23s to 23s Gd in comparison with 23s to 24s Od. Prices did not eu»ange for ewes although, in contrast with the wetter market, some of last week's individual prices were better. Fat sorts were quoted from 13s to 14s against 14s to 15s Od last week, unfinished being quoted the same at from 9s to 13s Gd. The quality of the yarding on the whole was below last week s standard. Although prices improved slightly after lunch, the market for baconers was distinctly weaker. Porkers also suffered by the decline in competition although not to the same noticeable extent as baconers. A short entry of store pigs sold very readily at improved rates.
