OBITUARY
MRS M. A. OSBORNE One of the original settlers in the Manawaru district 'near Te Aroha, Mrs Mary Ann Osborne, has died at Papatoetoe, aged 84. Born and married in Victoria she accompanied her husband, the late Mr H. H. Osborne, to New Zealand, travelling on the ill-fated Elingamite, which was later wrecked at the Three Kings. After a short stay at Ngaruawahia, and a year or so at Newstead, Mr and Mrs Osborne took up land at Manawaru. Mrs Osborne is survived by two sons and two daughters. MR W. J. C. COGSWELL After a residence of 35 years in the Waharoa district the death has occurred of Mr William James Cresswell Cogswell, aged 87. Born at sea he reached New Zealand with his parents when only a few weeks old. His parents settled at Raglan, but returned to England for some time, coming back to the colony after the Waikato War. Mr Cogswell worked on the construction of the HamiltonMorrinsville railway and later farmed in the Weber (Hawke's Bay) district, coming to Waharoa early in the present century. He is survived by his wile and an adopted daughter.
