I FUNCTION FOR SOLDIERS ! The complimentary social and | dance, held in the Waitoa Hall, and j tendered to Lance-Corporal K. G. : Staiger, Privates (Tim) McQuarters, W. I. Goodison, S. Bigwood, L. J. C. j Wragg, N. H. Jeffs, and C. G. T. Bowling, members of the Fifth Re- ! inforcements, was attended by over j 400 residents. I Music for dancing was provided by [ the Waitoa Patriotic Orchestra, extras I being played by Messrs W. Gibbons, ! H. Coulter, and L. Mathis, Mr and j Mrs R. F. Keatinge and Miss June | Keatinge, of Morrinsville, and Mrs J. i Glover, Te Aroha. j During the evening items were l given by Miss E. Scott (Morrinsville), Miss S. Keatinge (Waitoa), Mr and Mrs Keatinge, and Mr A. Burns. A special feature was a marching song, “ Home Guard,” the words and music j of which were written by Mrs R. F. j Keatinge, of Morrinsville, and dedi- ' cated to the Home Guard. It was i sang in public for the first time by • Mr W. Rosenl'eldt. j Following supper the guests of the i evening were piped to the stage by , Pipe-Major R. Robertson, where they i were greeted by Mr W. C. Kennedy, | chairman of the Piako Patriotic Committee and members of the local patI riotie committee. ■ Mr J. B. Wathen, manager of the ' dried milk factory, on behalf of the ! staff, presented Private Goodison and | Wragg with wallets, and Private Jeffs j and Bowling with signet rings. Mr j K. O. Campbell, manager of the Waii toa butter factory, on behalf of the j staff, presented Private W. Johansen with a smoker’s outfit. I Presentations of pens and pencils ; from the Waitoa Orchestra were made 1 to two of its former players, Lancej Corporal Staiger and Private J. S. i Stanley. Presentations Made The secretary of the local patriotic committee, Mr A. J. Graham, on behalf of the residents, presented each local man with a belt and a sum of money, and wished him bon-voyage and a safe return.
