TENNIS BID

WAIKATO CHALLENGE NUNNERLY CASKET The Waikato Lawn Tennis Association has issued a challenge to the Wellington Association for the Wilding Shield and the Nunnerly Casket. The matches will probably be played at Wellington on March 28 and 29. Waikato’s team for the Wilding Shield will be chosen from J. Roach, D. Livingstone, J. C. Charters, L. Roach and F. Jenkinson. The Nunnerly Casket match team will comprise Misses M. and N. Beverley, C. Buckley and W. Smith. Waikato’s chances of obtaining possession of the coveted Wilding Shield are considered distinctly bright. J. Roach and Livingstone are the present North Island, Auckland and Waikato doubles title holders, and both have other titles to their credit, so they should be able to provide stiff opposition to the Wellington players. Misses M. and N. Beverley, who are the possessors of many titles, including the North Island doubles title, should prove a tower of strength to the women’s team. The inclusion of Miss W. Smith, the North Auckland player, is possible because in matches for the Nunnerly Casket North Auckland and Waikato are regarded as one zone.
