OBITUARY

MR H. J. HALL The death has occurred at Oruanui of Mr Herbert John Hall, at the age of 64 years. Born in Yorkshire, Mr Hall was the son of Dr. W. J. Hall. He was educated at King’s College and the London University. He went to South Africa and joined the Border Police, serving throughout the Boer War. He later went to Australia and came to New Zealand in 1902. Mr Hall was engaged in the flax-milling industry in the Manawatu, and in 1906 he went to Taupo. He was a descendant of Rear Admiral Sir William Parry, the Arctic explorer. He married a niece of Mita Taupopoki, a paramount chief of the Taupo tribe. He is survived by three sons and four grandchildren. Another ancestor of the late Mr Hall was Blanche Parry, principal maid of honour to Queen Elizabeth, to whom a memorial is erected in Westminster Abbey.
