MINISTER MILKS

UNIQUE DEMONSTRATION MILKING MACHINE TESTED Donning dungarees and all the paraphernalia of a Waikato dairy farmer in the milking shed, the Hon. J. G. Barclay, Minister of Agriculture and Marketing, yesterday assisted to milk a herd of 76 cows on a Waikato farm. The sight of a Minister of the Crown applying his practical knowledge in a milking shed was seen on the Kiwitahi farm of Mr L. R. Harris and the purpose of the Minister’s action was to obtain first-hand knowledge of a milking machine evolved by Mr Harris. That the Minister was no tyro in the operation of a milking plant was soon demonstrated by the expert manner in which he set about his task. He remarked afterwards that the cows did not seem to be upsetby his ministrations. The Minister has decided to recommend that the milking machine he inspected and operated yesterday be given a trial to test its possibilities.
