WILDORE—GAY ROSETTE SMART ROUND RECORDED L BRONZE BIRD OVER SIX (By "Martian”) The going, 40ft. out from the rails ; on the course proper, at Te Rapa this I morning was in splendid order for ( galloping and several smart efforts ■ were recorded by candidates for the • Ohinemuri Jockey Club's meeting . over the week-end. A sterling trial over a round by Gay Rosette and Wildore was the outstanding feature of the morning’s programme. Aguila was doing better than Foxmint at tiie completion of live furlongs in 1.5. Respectful (Long) got to the end of six furlongs in 1.19 3-5 after loafing over the early part. He appears . to be coming to hand well. Penzance accounted for Marble j Fox and an unnamed Acre lilly at the completion of half-a-mile in 52aS. Roxy and Eastern Heir were associated over a round, which they traversed in 2.10 2-5. Karatoki (Gollop) was doing better than Successful (McLaughlin) and Veyanna (C. B. Goulsbro) over five furlongs in 1.3 4-5, which was the best of the morning over the distance. Karatoki is in good order for pending engagements. Hunto and Foxsen There was little between Foxsen (Long) and Hunto, with Acreman j several lengths away at the end of a circuit in 2.2. Gold Spot (Sinton) and Royal Jay (Gilmer) negotiated six furlongs in 1.19. Bronze Bird (C. B. Goulsbro) accounted for Trilliarch (Gollop) and Acquest (Meynell) over six furlongs in 1.18, the initial half-mile occupying 525. Bronze Bird worked well. Kingcraft (McLaughlin) and Irish Pearl (C. B. Goulsbro) were associated over live furlongs in 1.8, running the first half-mile in 525. The feature gallop of the morning j was that in which Gay Rosette [ (Jones) and Wildore (Ensor) were' associated over a round. Gay Rosette, j with customary brilliance, soon opened up a gap of several lengths j on her companion but Wildore, fin- j ishing on, got up on the post to shade : Gay Rosette and beat her by a head. The pace was on all the way and the time for the full distance, 1.58£, has probably never been bettered at Te Rapa under the conditions. Subsequently it was stated by A. C. Jones that Gay Rosette would not fulfill I her engagement in the big race the j Jirst day at Paeroa but might go | through for the latter day of the fix- | ture. Wildore shaped most encour- i agingly this morning and a line ! through his forward running at Pukekohe recently would suggest a good chance for him in the Ohinemuri Cup on Saturday. Ngawiri Shapes Well Ngawiri (Jones) dashed over five furlongs in 1.3 4-5. Cappy and Sunny Downs ran the first five furlongs of a round in 1.6 1-5. Lomacre (Long) hit out over half-a-mile in 525. He is steadily on the upgrade. Runanga (Taylor) and Stylishman (Brown) ran to the five furlong peg in 1.5 4-5, their first half-mile requiring 52£s. Both shaped well for horses of their class. Lochacre (Ensor) was doing better than Tea Drop -(McGregor) and Evan’s Head (Coon) over five furlongs in 1.4 4-5, the first half-mile in 50 4-ss. Peter Douglas (Brown), assisted I over the first half-mile by Autoscore (Ensor) in 51 l-ss, got to the end of five in 1.4 4-5. He is in great heart for racing at Paeroa. Devon (Ensor) ran once round in 2.3. Riding Engagements Riding engagements for the first day of the Ohinemuri meeting include:— W. O. Ensor.—Eastern Heir, Te Takina, Mihinui, Paymaster, Lochacre, Tea Drop. O. Mclnally. —Celtic Lad. P. McD. Brady.—Cappy, Silver England.
