TRAGEDY WHILE FISHING SON’S RESCUE ATTEMPT (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WANGANUI, Monday Getting out of his depth while fishing with a dragnet at Kaitoke Beach, five miles south from Wanganui. this morning, Mr Frederick Pritchard, aged 50, a farmer, of Kaitoki, was drowned. The body was recovered about 400 yards further clown the beach, but resuscitation was unsuccessful. Mr Pritchard, with his daughter, was ushig the net in the surf and when they were obviously in difficulties his son, Mr Gordon Pritchard, and a friend, Mr Neil Crabbe. went to their assistance. Mr Crabbe managed to get the girl ashore, but Mr Gordon Pritchard was forced to relinquish his hold on his lather. FATE OF BATHER (By Telegraph.-—Press Association) DUNEDIN. Monday While bathing at Brighton on Saturday Mr John McLean, aged 66, a baker, living at Green Island, was drowned. Mr McLean was observed by Mr R. B. Mclntosh, who obtained assistance and reached him when he was 50 yards from the shore. Mr McLean was brought to the beach «uid was found U* bo dead.
