Brought together in Honduras, the scrapping sweethearts face sabotage in the skies. But in a sensational climax j the airman overcomes the saboteurs . while the girl broadcasts the nerve- . racking battle. “ Street of Memories ” is one of the | most unusual love stories ever told j on the screen. John McGuire plays i an outcast from a world he can- j not remember and Lynne Roberts 1 portrays the girl who helps him fight for a chance in life. THEATRE ROYAL “ Zanzibar ” tells of the graphic adventures of a white huntress in j conflict with jungle beasts and African savages. Lola Lane portrays a i daring girl explorer, and James Craig I has the role of a danger-seeking young American. “ Scatterbrain,” starring Judy Canova, is a sparkling comedy. Eddie i Maclntyre, breezy talent scout and righthand man to J. R. Russell, pro-ducer-director of Perfection Pictures, i arranges to “ plant ” his own girl I friend in the Ozarks and have her j “discovered” as an authentic hill- : billy to be starred in Perfection’s new j picture, “ Thunder Over the Ozarks.” j Through an error little Miss Canova, j a real hillbilly, is brought to the film capital instead of the sham hillbilly j and her adventures after she arrives I are exciting, amusing and romantic. ROXY THEATRE Presenting Deanna Durban as a village maid who goes to the city in search of the destiny foretold her by a fortune teller, the story of “Spring Parade” is based on an original by Ernest Marischka and involves the star in a charming romance. She meets and falls in love with Robert Cummings. Amid romantic surroundings, the story unfolds in an attractive atmosphere and background. “ Rootin’, Tootin’ Rhythm ” takes Gene Autry and his pal “ Frog ” into intriguing adventures. The two of them are mistaken for bad men, who in turn are mistaken for sheriffs. When the pseudo sheriffs pursue the pseudo bad men the fun and excitement begin. REGENT THEATRE The spectacular film adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel, “Pride and Prejudice,” is delightful entertainment. The production is outstanding in more ways than one, but the high standard of the cast is especially appealing. Laurence Olivier, who made such an impression with his portrayal in “Rebecca,” plays the role of Mr Darcy, a rich and attractive bachelor, while Greer Garson displays her ability as Elizabeth Bennett. Edna May Oliver appears i as Lady Catherine de Brough, while I Maureen O’Sullivan pleases as Jane j Bennett. The plot lies in the strenu- I ous efforts of the village mothers to impress eligible young men with the charm of their daughters. Pictures of the capture of Tobruk, ! the bombing of London, and othei j war scenes are very interesting. CIVIC THEATRE “The Mark of Zorro” is filled with ! excitement and romance, and pro- ! vides Tyrone Power with one of his | most successful roles, while Linda i Darnell has never looked lovelier or appeared to greater advantage. The j story is the exciting tale of the j night-riding masked avenger who j flourished in the most exciting days of Old California, leaving behind the jagged sword mark that struck terror to every heart but one, that of the beautiful senorita who gave him her love. Boasting the most spectacular action and sword play the screen has seen in many a day, Mr Power’s role is crammed with hardriding, furious fighting, ardent romance and climaxed by a realistic duel with Basil Rathbone, who heads the featured cast. Mr Rathbone has a strong role as a deep-dyed villain. Gale Sondergaard scores as the vain, flirtatious wife of the wicked alcade, and others include Eugene Pallette as Fray Felipe, J. Edward Bromberg as the alcalde, Montagu Love, Janet Beecher, Robert Lowery and ChrisPin Martin.
