PLUNKET SOCIETY
APPEAL FOR FUNDS SUBSCRIPTION QUESTION “With our outgoings approximately £45 a month and our main source of revenue the annual street collection, the society sincerely hopes that it will receive generous support in its annual street appeal tomorrow,” said Mrs N. E. Blomfteld, president of the Hamilton branch of the Plunket Society today. After stressing the important work performed by the society and the imperative need to build a healthy nation. Mrs Blomfteld stated that if the mothers who had benefited from the society would become financial members there would not be the imperative need of street appeals. “The logical way for the society to meet its obligations is by money raised from those who derive benefit from the service given,” said Mrs Blomfteld, “and if more mothers realised that by joining the society and maintaining their smali yearly subscription they would be ensuring the continuation of the service I am sure they would do so. There are many who come to the rooms without apparently thinking of the cost of the service they receive. If they do not pay their small subscription someone else has to, and I think that if every mother dropped a small co i n —whatever they could afford — into the box at the rooms they would take the onus from others and also feel they were doing something to maintain the benefits for that they have received themselves.” Mrs Blomfteld added that with so many appeals during these times if the society could manage without street appeals it would, but this was impossible. However, if the financial membership were anything like it should be there would be no need tor street appeals and she appealed to those who had derived and were deriving benefit from the services provided to become financial members. “The need for healthy babies and a virile nation is more apparent now than ever.” concluded Mrs Blomfteld. “The Plunket Society is undoubtedly doing a great work in caring for the health of mothers and children and it requires finance to enable it to continue and expand its services.”
