“NOT COMING IN”
AUCKLAND DOCTORS STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT WILLING TO CO-OPERATE (By Telegraph.—press Association) AUCKLAND, Monday “ Speaking on behalf of all the doctors in Auckland, with the possible exception of one, I would state that not a single doctor has accepted, or intends to accept, work under this scheme believing that it provides a very inferior and unsatisfactory health scheme,” said Dr. L. G. Drury, president of the Auckland division of the British Medical Association, commenting on the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister of Health’s published statement suggesting that the Government will have no. difficulty in obtaining sufficient doctors to work the General practitioner service. “ This must not be taken to mean that the profession is taking a purely obstructionist attitude.” Dr. Drury added: “ In the case of the maternity service, the scheme originally prepared by the Government was, for many reasons, altogether unacceptable, but after co-operation between the B.M.A. and the Government, a scheme was evolved which has proved satisfactory to patients and doctors. “ We sincerely hope that a similar arrangement can be made with regard the general practitioner serPOSITION IN HAMILTON No doctors in Hamilton or district were participating in the Government's general practitioner scheme, said Dr. Duncan Macdiarmid, secretary of the Hamilton Division of the B.M.A. this afternoon. To date no contract cards had been signed by any Hamilton medical practitioner.
