HAMILTON DRAMATISTS
PAGEANT AND COMEDY PRODUCTION FOR WELLINGTON There is a lot of playwritrng talent in Hamilton. In the past we have seen some striking productions written by local people, and it is good to know that even in these troublous times the art is not being allowed to drop. Mr R. Braithwaite, whose Pageant of Empire made such a great impression on audiences last year and is now in active rehearsal in Wellington under the direction of Gordon Hooper on behalf of the patriotic funds, has not rested on his laurels, Cor he has written another striking play, dealing with a movement that is very much to the fore just now. Full details of this will be announced at a social to be held by members of the Pageant of Empire cast and friends, and it is likely that the play will be put into rehearsal shortly. It is interesting to learn that some of the properties used in the Hamilton production of the Pageant have been sent to Wellington for the production there. The Wellington committee is very enthusiastic regarding the Pageant, and great success is expected in the capital city. New Modern Comedy Rosalie Seddon, whose romantic period play, “Amy Robsart,” pleased people so much last year, has written ■i modern comedy that should add to the young dramatist’s laurels. Then there is Mr A. Cook, who has written a new Biblical play which should equal the success of “The Sign,” which reached the semi-finals of the New Zealand Drama Festival last year.
