ITALIANS’ BIG LOSSES SUICIDE OF COLONEL SUCCESS OF GREEKS (Omclal Wireless) (Received March 8, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, March 7 A Greek communique, in announcing the success of a full day’s actions in six words, “Lively artillery activity crowned with success,” amplified the following bulletin from the Athens Press Ministry: The Greek artillery, firing with great accuracy, scored positive results against enemy positions. The Greek anti-tank artillery destroyed a tank. The Italians claimed to have bombed and hit port installations at Mytilene, in the Aegean Sea, but actually the Italians dropped bombs into the Gulf of Gera, all falling into the sea. An Italian officer prisoner stated that the 53rd Regiment of the Sforcesca Division, which took part in the fighting north-west of Tepelini on February 17, was completely wiped out, all the officers being either killed, wounded, or taken prisoner, while the men suffered similarly. Much material was taken. The commanding officer of the regiment, Colonel Alfieri Bassi, committed suicide.
