Mr C. A. Barrell, M.P. for Hamilton, returned from Wellington this morning. Mr H. Ingham, postmaster at Devonport, will retire on superannuation at the end of the month. Mr S. Hague, secretary to the Hamilton Fire Brigade, left last night to attend the annual Fire Brigades' Conference at Blenheim. Mr V. J. Moroney, of the Commonwealth Department of Commerce, and Mr D. L. Canavan, of the Commonwealth Treasury, who are members of the Australian delegation headed by the Hon. H. L. Anthony, will leave Auckland by air to-day for Sydney.
Mr S. G. Smith, of New Plymouth, was in Hamilton yesterday as liaison officer for the State Placement Service. Mr Smith conferred with the Waikato provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, and set out in detail the objectives of the service. Mr Smith returned to New Plymouth last night, but intends to revisit Hamilton on Tuesday. Sergeant H. A. Milne, of the Second New Zealand Expeditionaiy Force, was honoured by a large gathering ol iriends lasi night, uu J. Pollock, his business partner, presenting him with a wallet and a Maori greenstone tiki on behalf of those present. Mr Justice Callan, who has been presiding at Sittings in Auckland of the Commission ol Inquiry into the alleged leakage of shipping information, and other members ol the commission, the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C., Captain F. A. Macindoe. secretary of the New Zealand Merchant Service Guild, and Captain E. Rotherham, i R.N., left for Wellington last night.
