AJAX FOR STUD SOLD FOR 65 00 GIN'S (United Press Assn—Elec. Tel. Copyright) MELBOURNE-, March 7 Ajax was sold at auction to-day for 6>soUgns. Ridding began at SOOOgns. His new owner, Mr \v. J. Smith, of St. Aubins Stud, announced that the horse would remain, in Australia. Mr Smith also owns Beau Pere, who has gone to America Lanaruis, who is engaged in ihe Australian cup, was sold to Mr L. Skinner, South Australia, ror 130-gns. Ajax contested 4 6 races ror 36 wins, seven seconds and two thirds, winning stakes and trophies valued at £40,4'25. This record, compiled in a little over Tour seasons, compares favourably with that of Ills famous sire Heroic, who in 52 starts had 2d wins and amassed £3-3,06-2. In spite or the fact that he was defeated in both Derbies, Ajax was tne acknowledged champion of bis gen era Dm in Australia and he beat every horse who beat him. He won a Newmarket Handicap as well as nearly all the weight-Tor-age and semi-classic races In New S >uth Wales and Victoria.

Hampshire, or with Messrs Blomlleld and Company, Auckland, on Friday, March 14. A very attractive programme or events has been prepared.
