;PROGRESS AT RUAKURA j INSPECTION BY COMMITTEE | FACIAL ECZEMA EXPERIMENTS | The first quarterly meeting of the 1 ! year of the Ruakura Farm Advisory ; Committee was held at the farm yes- ‘ j terday. In the morning the com- 1 1 mittee inspected the farm and noted 1 | the progress of several experiments, the superintendent, Mr P. W. Small- j field, detailing the progress of experi- j mcnts in regard to photo sensitivity j in sheep and in connection with the feeding of sugar beet to pigs. At the afternoon’s meeting a j lengthy report reviewing the experimental work done since the Decern- ■ her meeting was presented by the j superintendent. In referring to the ; “ facial eczema ” experiments, the re- ! port stated that so far the season had 1 not been favourable for the develop- | ment of the disease. Outstation at Wairoa At the Karamu outstation pastures were kept short during the DecemberJanuary spell and were burnt up in patches, but recovered after rain, no eczema occurring. An outstation had been established at Wairoa. Here the conditions appeared more favourable for an outbreak of the disease than elsewhere, but no cases had oc- j curred to the end of February. Mr P. W. Smallfield, superintendent of the Ruakura Animal Research Station, presided at the meeting, and also present were:—Dr. J. F. Filmer. (acting director of the Animal Research Division), Messrs E. F.
