OTOROHANGA GUN CLUB

ANNUAL SHOOT POPULAR FIXTURE (special to Times) OTOROH ANG A, T liursday. There was a large attendance at the Otorohanga Gun club’s annual shooting contests held on the Island Reserve under Ideal weather conditions. Two £SO open handicaps and many trophy mutches were Items on the comprehensive programme. Competitors were present from Auckland, Hamilton, Whakatane, Thames, New Plymouth, llawera and many King Country and Waikato Clay Bird Clubs. The shooting was of an unusually high order. The first £SO match drew 37 competitors, or whom W. J. Mca.Mikeii (Hamilton), T. W. Elliott (Wuitakaruru) and J. James (Taumaruuuii) shot the possible ami divided the whole of the prize moneys. Murray Pratt (Otorohanga), E. Benton (Otorohanga), Turner (Auckland) ami Crosby (Cambridge) broke 19 of the 20 birds. in the second £SO handicap there were 3 4 competitors, and H. W. Carter (Otorohanga), E-. Allison (Morrinsville) and J. Dobson (Hamilton) sho-t the possible 20 and divided the stake. Turner (Auckland), Pratt (Otoronanga) and Seymour (Otorohanga) shot 19 birds. There were 41 entries in the eyeopener, of five birds, 17 shooting the possible and dividing. The trophy shoot drew 34 shootists. This was a sweepstake of 10 birds, and seven—(Murray Pratt, McMiken, W. Sharp (Morrinsville), T. Neil (Cambridge), L. PcnnlaU (I’-io Poa), W. Seymour (Otorohanga) and R. Newcombe (Cambridge) broke the possible. 111 the shoot-off, McJMiken missed bis fourth, Seymour liis fifth, Pratt his tenth, and Sharp his 10 th. Pen mall broke liis birds to win the dinner waggon, while Sharp secured the consolation trophy. The gymcrack event of seven birds—back two yards each break—was won by five or the 3 7 competitors. J. Fausett (Morrinsville), J. Low (Pio Pio), Simmons (Whakatane), James (Taumarunui) and C. Benton (Otorohanga) all scored the possible. There were 2 1 shooters for the box shoot (2-6 yards, shooter to sit on a box). Muriay Pratt and Sharp were the only marksmen to get the possible and they divided the money.
