TRANSPORT LICENSES

SITTING OF AUTHORITY MANY APPLICATIONS HEARD A lengthy list of applications for renewals, amendments and transfers of transport licenses was heard by the No. 1 Licensing Authority, Mr E. J. Phelan, Hamilton yesterday. Several cases were adjourned because the applicants did not appear, and in a number of other applications decisions were reserved pending further inquiries. In hearing applications for the licensing of taxi-cabs the Authority warned applicants that complaints were issued by the police and Bench from time to time concerning the transport of liquor by taxi operators. Such offences would be viewed seriously by tr.e Licensing Authority and might result in steps being taken to revoke the licenses. The only new application was for a goods service by C. M. Jones, of Cambridge, who desired a license to carry manure and hay. After hearing considerable evidence concerning the application, which was opposed, the Authority reserved his decision. The following applications were granted:— Passenger service license amendment: Hodgson’s Motor Services Ltd., Te Awamutu-Railway station (decision reserved); Buses Ltd., Hamilton-Waihi Beach (decision reserved).
